Refresher Training under the AEARI Programme
In December 2025, WCAHealth successfully contributed to a landmark national effort to enhance primary health care delivery across Nigeria. As part of the Accelerating the Expanded Adoption of RMNCH Innovations (AEARI) programme, funded by the Gates Foundation through our strategic partner Technical Advice Connect (TAConnect), we provided dedicated technical and facilitation support to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, and Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board for the final phase of Kano State’s Refresher Training of frontline health workers.
This intensive 13-day programme (2–14 December 2025) equipped approximately 800 nurses, midwives, Community Health Officers (CHOs), and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) across 22 cluster sites spanning 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The training focused on high-impact interventions in maternal, newborn, and child health, with a strong emphasis on skilled birth attendance (SBA), emergency response, and respectful care.
WCAHealth’s team was actively on the ground during the closing week (10–14 December), covering five key zones:
- Gwale
- Wudil
- Nasarawa
- Bichi
- Dawaki Tofa
We led hands-on facilitation of SBA modules, with particular focus on preventing and managing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), a leading cause of maternal mortality.
Through practical simulations using advanced manikins, participants mastered the E-MOTIVE bundle (Early detection, Massage, Oxytocics, Tranexamic acid, IV fluids, Examination & Escalation) and the use of calibrated blood-loss drapes for accurate, timely intervention.
These innovations enable faster, more effective responses during delivery and post- delivery care, directly helping to save mothers’ and newborns’ lives.
The programme concluded with inspiring speeches, and renewed commitment from trainees to apply these skills in their facilities.
This achievement was made possible through strong, multi-level collaboration:
- National leadership by NPHCDA
- State-level coordination with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KNSPHCMB)
- Funding and strategic support from Gates Foundation via TAConnect
- Implementation partnership with WHO and Global Health Group Nigeria (GGHN)
WCAHealth is proud to play a visible and substantive role in this initiative, demonstrating our expertise in capacity building, innovation integration, and partnership-driven impact.
By bridging critical skill gaps in Kano, we are contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s goals of reducing preventable maternal and child deaths and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
This work aligns seamlessly with our broader mission, including community-rooted approaches like the Big Sister Strategy for adolescent sexual and reproductive health in Benue, Enugu, and Taraba States.
We look forward to continuing these transformative partnerships and sharing more success stories in 2026.
“Partnering with Execor team was exactly what we were looking for. They are much more than accountants; they provide guidance and are available to talk through decisions that impact our business.”
